Tips on selling your Gold, Silver and Platinum

Choose a reputable dealer - Town Square Jewelers is a family owned business and has been located on the Square in Fayetteville since 1994. We won't pressure you to make a sell- we want you to feel comfortable about the sale. You can watch and ask questions while we evaluate your pieces.

Start with Reasonable Expectations - Your original purchase of the piece included more than just the price of the gold. The price included the labor to design and produce it, packaging, branding and retail markup as well as gemstones and diamonds. We are only purchasing the gold in the piece. In some cases we are able to remove the stones and give those back to you. If the stones are important to you, please let us know and we can discuss this further at the sale.

How do you determine value of my gold? First we will sort your pieces and visually look for markings to determine if the piece is gold, silver or platinum. We also sort the gold by karat. After this is done, we perform a scratch test or acid test to verify the markings. Even though they maybe nice pieces of jewelry, we are unable to buy gold plated, electroplated or gold filled pieces. We will always return anything we are unable to purchase. Many of the mail off or internet based businesses have procedures and methods that must be followed to get your gold back if you decide to decline their offer. With our procedures your gold stays within your sight until the transaction is complete.

We can purchase silver serving items however, be aware that some pieces are filled and not solid silver. A heavy piece may not pay as much as expected.

We purchase by DWT. DWT is the common abbreviation for a pennyweight. The pennyweight is the common weight used in the valuation and measurement of precious metals. It is a very precise measurement that allows us to weigh the smallest of gold charms and pieces of chain.

Bring a form of Government ID with a picture (driver's license). Gold buyers are required to ask for and copy your id in case the police show up later with questions about stolen property.

All Gold sales are final. We are purchasing your gold as scrap metal and it leaves our store on a regular basis. Because we don't hold onto the pieces all sales are final. However, we never pressure you to sell. If you are uncertain about a certain piece we encourage you to take your time- we will still be here later if you want to sell.
