The 4 C's of Diamond grading was developed by the GIA (Gemalogical Institute of America) to standardize the valuation of diamonds and identify each diamond's subtle differences. It is important to understand that all the elements are interdependent and must be considered collectively. A high ranking in one "C" does not guarantee a better stone if the other "C's" are rated poorly. It is recommended that you learn about the 4C's, but the Town Square Jewelers sales staff will be happy to answer questions and help you with the selection of a diamond that suits your desires, budget and needs.
A good cut give a diamond its brilliance. When a diamond is well cut the light enters through the table and travels to the pavillion where it reflects from one side to the other before reflecting back out of the diamonds table. This light is the brilliance, flashing and firey effect that we love about diamonds. In a poorly cut diamond less light is reflected back to the eye.
